In the wake of the news that Victoria Police Chief Jamie Graham had been “reprimanded” for accidently leaving his loaded handgun under the front seat of his patrol car, I appeared on Byline to discuss the obvious double standard at play here.
In our discussion, we review some of the criminal sanctions that a licensed gun owner would have faced had he or she accidentally left a loaded pistol under the front seat of a car.
The core issue in my opinion? The criminalization of law-abiding citizens through the use of criminal penalties to address what should otherwise be mere regulatory matters.
