I would very much like them to explain why the AP-80 is now a prohib and the AP-74 is not when the rifles are internally the same. The AP-80 is the AK-47 look alike and the AP-74 is the AR-15 look alike.
Yes…I am one of the unlucky ones who has received one of the notices. I’ve owned mine from 1986 (purchased from the original dealer). I do not have a 12.5 license however according to the letter I would not be able to keep the rifle even if I did. As informed through discussions with the relevant people in Ottawa (via the phone # and ext. quoted in the notice) an individual is not allowed to own this rifle even if they have the appropriate 12.5 license because it was not deemed a prohib prior to the enactments.
    I am from NS.

I also received the early Christmas gift from the RCMP stating they had revolked my registration certificate for my Armi Jager AP 80 . I have owned this rifle since March 1985, and it was registered with the CFC since February 2003. I have a
12(5) Licence and own a prohibited handgun however, I have to surrender this rifle.

For me this wasn’t just a show piece, both my son and I belong to a local gun club and would shoot this rifle every couple of months. I have been a Police Officer for 24 years and have owned this rifle for 27 years. I have never heard of this model of rifle being used in any type of crime. It is offensive after owning the rifle for so many years without incident that the RCMP would force me to surrender this rifle without compensation. As a lawful gun owner and Police officer, I do not support this revocation of my permit to own the AP80 and I have lost all confidence in the long gun registry.

I got the same letter from Nicole that you all did for Christmas. I’m planning to do the judicial reference and buy some time until the govt hopefully comes to their senses and let my mp and Vic Towes know my feelings. What is everyone else planning to do? This is wrong on so many levels.

I don’t think that the AP_80 should be illegal
It is the combination of semiautomatic with a greater than 5 round magazine that is illegal. Make the magazine illegal not the firearm . If there was a legal “standard”5 round
magazine I really do not see the issue. Something seriously wrong here.

  4. Ian Carey says:

just heard about the ban of these firearms in ‘Ontario out of Doors’. I’m also aware of the same fate for the Walther G22. What’s any different from a Ruger 10/22 with a 25 round magazine, or perhaps are they next on the chopping block? When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.
